What is online giving?
Sometimes online giving is referred to as egiving, mobile giving, or even electronic giving.
It’s all the same thing: Using the internet to give tithes and offerings.
Online giving allows members of churches to give their tithes and offerings from any location. Rather than depending on cash and checks, church members can conveniently send their gifts electronically.
Credit cards, debit cards, ACH payments, Paypal, Apple Pay, and Venmo are all methods of payment that can be accepted through online giving platforms.
In this blog post, we’ll go over the importance of online giving and why now is the best time to get started.
Online giving is convenient

What is something that nearly every person carries in their pocket or purse on a day-to-day basis?
Answer: a smartphone.
With online giving, church members can use their smartphones to instantly give their tithes and offerings.
Online giving empowers church members to give at any time, from anywhere. It is available 24/7, 365 days a year.
With online giving, church members are able to give before the offering plate even makes it to them.
Online giving is crucial for churches to have in place because it allows them to continue their mission whether the congregation can meet in person or not.
Online giving is for all generations
A new generation of believers who fervently desire to serve and extend the Kingdom of God do not contribute money in the same way as previous generations.
Generally speaking, millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) and Generation Z (born between 1997 and 2012) do not carry cash or write checks. A recent survey showed that 41% of millennials said using cash “is inconvenient.”
So is online giving for only Generation Z or millennials? That’s not what the data says. According to Pew Research, 81% of all adults in the US have smartphones. That means that millennials and other adults alike have the ability and the need to give online. Online giving is for everyone!

Online giving is secure

Giving online is a big upgrade in security.
There are so many opportunities for error with physical cash and checks. Those risks for errors can be mitigated when church members have the ability to give online.
A member gives money using an online giving platform, then the money is transferred to the church’s bank account. Churches can then have records of who gave, how much they gave, and when they gave.
Modern giving platforms are PCI-compliant and process transactions using TLS Encryption - in other words, it’s secure!
